Curtains
Pima Community College Center for the Arts
February 22-March 4, 2012
A Tucson premiere!
Curtains is a murder-mystery, musical comedy whodunit set in a theatre in 1959 Boston. Imagine "Clue" meets Broadway or Agatha Christy meets Irving Berlin. It's a fun madcap caper with plenty of dancing, singing and humor with a show-within-the-show plot. The mayhem begins when the remarkably untalented star of the new musical "Robbin' Hood" is murdered during her opening night curtain call. A police detective, who moonlights as a musical theater fan, sequesters the entire cast and crew backstage to solve the case and save the show. Musical numbers include "Show People", "That Away", "Wide Open Spaces", "The Woman's Dead", "He Did It", "I Miss the Music" and "A Tough Act to Follow". Nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Choreography.
Though Curtains is new to most audiences, it has a familiar feel to it with memorable tunes. According to music director Booth, "Every number is a homage to Broadway musical styles, from Oklahoma to Showboat, Girl Crazy to Singing in the Rain, and everything in between!"
Brought to the stage by the creative team of Todd Poelstra, Mickey Nugent, Dr. Mark Nelson and featuring for the first time the acclaimed Nancy Davis Booth; costume design by MaryAnn Trombino.

Many Mexicos: Vistas de la Frontera
Arizona State Museum
November 19, 2010-November 17, 2012
This two-year exhibition interprets the broad sweep of the Mexican past from the perspective of the borderlands, a vast, contested space that was the outer rim of Mesoamerica in the Pre-Columbian period and later evolved into the northern frontier of Spanish-Indian relations following the conquest of Mexico. Moreover, the establishment of the international border between the United States and Mexico in the mid-nineteenth century set the tone for subsequent cross-cultural contact and commercial exchange between individuals, local communities, and nation-states that continues today despite the polemic currently raging over immigration. In so many ways, the history of Arizona reflects off the mirror of the Mexican past. Indigenous and European, Asian and African, newcomers and those here for a long time, all form part of the cultural fabric that constitutes Mexico and, by extension, Arizona.
