Kenda Newbury

Actor - Choreographer - Dancer - Director - Visual Artist

About the artist: Artistic Director of the new professional contemporary ballet, jazz and modern dance company of Arizona, AZDance Group, Kenda Newbury was first classically trained here at Phoenix School of Ballet and Kelly Brown.

She holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the Boston Conservatory and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts/Speech, Communication and Theatre from Ottawa University. Her teaching credits are varied and include Boston Ballet Center for Dance Education, Boston Conservatory as a T.A., Boston College, Boston University, Dean College, the Maricopa County Com. College District, Phoenix School of Ballet and Ballet Arizona, to name a few.

Ms. Newbury has worked with such notable choreographers and performers as Sean Curran, Ralph Lemon, Sarah Skaggs, Stanley Holden, Chicago Ballet/Marjorie Tallchief, Ballet West, Tommy Tune, Impulse Dance Company/Adrienne Hawkins, Boston Liturgical Dance Ensemble, and Ballet de America as well as on television and commercials, Super Bowl Half Time shows, and Princess Cruise Lines. Choreographic experiences include much of the above plus Winter Guards, Concert dance works, Equestrian events (Dressage/Horse, Dancer and Rider), and Musical Theatre, to name a few.

Her students are on Broadway, successful LA dancers and in classical and contemporary dance companies such as Ailey, American Repertory Theatre, American Ballet Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Boston Ballet.

She is interested in collaborative projects, primarily multi-media, and with other styles of dance, and loves working with well-trained dancers and pedestrians in her works! One of her greatest joys is her newly created pilot-dance-program, "Movement E-Motion", a program for individuals with different ability. But her greatest joy is her daughter, Shaeleigh, who has already been on stage over a dozen times.
