The Plains Indian Wars - First Half

The Plains Indian Wars - First Half

Presented by Community Performing Arts Center Foundation at Community Performing Arts Center

    November 15, 2011

As requested, here is the epic story of the Indian Wars out on the Great Plains during the 1800s, as the American frontier moved ever westward. It is an American saga that is too large to be told in one sitting. Therefore, this first half of the story takes us from those early troubles along the Platte River Trail in the 1850s, up to the Spring of 1868, when the Lakota Sioux have gained control of the Northern Plains, and the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers with full fury are repeatedly raiding along the railroad routes on the Central Plains. In addition to lectureing about the various incidents and fights, like the Gratten Massacre that started everything, Left Hand's experience with the folks in Denver, Sand Creek, the Dog Soldier raids, the Fetterman Massacre up on the Boseman Road, and how that whole western campaign developed, Jack also tells about the Sioux and Cheyenne people, about the names, counting coup, the Sun Dance, the buffalo, the teepee, gift giving, bravery, battle cries, and the dog soldiers.
