Treasure Island
September 21-October 2, 2011
By Ara Watson, from the book by Robert Louis Stevenson. Directed by Mickey Nugent. A map, an island, a treasure and pirates, an unforgettable adventure awaits those who dare!
A boy, a stolen map, a deserted island, a buried treasure and lots of Pirates, the perfect elements for a tale that has captivated the young and old ever since Stevenson began penning this coming-of-age saga for the Scottish children's magazine Young Folks in 1881. His book, published in 1883, introduced the world to all the familiar pirate myths they know and love today, one legged seamen with eye patches, shoulder-riding parrots, sword fights, treasure maps with the black X marking the spot, schooners flying the jolly roger, buried gold on tropical islands and the infamous Long John Silver. Cleverly adapted by Watson and artfully directed by Nugent, this thrilling family production comes to life onstage amidst Todd Poelstra's imaginative set complete with a rustic inn, two ships, a dense island jungle with cliffs and a volcano!
