Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra - May
May 22, 2011
The season finale of the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra is truly international - with accents of Brazil, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy and Hollywood.
There will be three Brazilians on stage - Music Director Linus Lerner and guitar soloists Eduardo Minozzi Costa and Gabriel Navia, performing Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Concerto for Two Guitars. The Italian composer, considered the foremost guitar composer of the 20th century, settled in America in 1939 and scored numerous films for MGM and other Hollywood studios.
The SASO program opens with French composer Chabrier's EspaƱa, inspired by his trip to Spain in 1882. The concert closes with Germany's native son Beethoven and his powerful Symphony No. 7 in A Major, which he wrote in Bohemia and premiered in Austria.
