A Celebration of Nations

Pima Community College Dance, under the direction of full-time faculty Aurora Gon?alves-Shaner, examines the fascinating origins of dance paying tribute to the cultures of Africa; Western Europe; North, Central and South America in the concert "A Celebration of Nations." The dancers traverse the world noting the rich variety of dance in the Americas that emerged from a fusion of African and European culture, rhythm and movement. The diverse program includes Italy's tarantella, France's can-can, Spain's flamenco and paso-doble, Mexico's traditional, Cuba's salsa and cha-cha, Argentina's tango, Brazil's samba and the United States' swing and hip-hop. PCC student dancers showcase a semester's worth of dance techniques such as ballet, modern, and jazz; choreographed by PCC faculty Aurora Gon?alves-Shaner,Claire Hancock, Colleen Beaman and Kim Hennes. In addition to the resident choreographers the performance includes works from the University of Arizona's School of Dance, Ballet Folklorico Arizona, and Viva Arizona Dance Company.
