Carmina Burana
November 20-November 22, 2009
Thirty years ago, Sony pioneered the Walkman. Cartoon character Garfield made his premier. Gasoline cost 86 cents a gallon. Visical was the first commercial spread sheet. And a handful of musicians formed the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra (SASO). Things change in 30 years, and like a fine wine, SASO has improved with age. SASO will celebrate its 30th anniversary in grand style with three performances of the popular and powerful "Camina Burana" on Nov. 20, 21 and 22. Carl Orff composed this sometimes-spiritual, sometimes -bawdy piece in the 1930s, selecting songs from a collection 11th and 12th century manuscripts found in a Benedictine monastery in 1803.
