Evening of Western Music
November 21, 2009
LAVA Music will showcase three of Tucson's most loved Western groups Way Out West, Ride that Pony, and the Due West Trio. Way Out West, Don and Victoria, and the Due West Trio will perform in the beautiful Abounding Grace Sanctuary. They're called Way Out West, and that's where they'll take you with classic music of the working cowboys, songs of Hollywood's singing cowboys, and their own songs and poetry! You'll smell the woodsmoke and the sage and hear the coyotes yip in the Arizona desert! Way Out West is Emmy Creigh on guitar and vocals, Slim Rost on bunkhouse bass and vocals, and Tom Poley on banjo, guitar, and vocals. Ride that Pony features Don and Victoria Armstrong, Gil Brown(long time member of the Santa Cruz River Band), and Slim Rost. Don and Victoria have written songs that have been recorded by Judy Collins, John Denver, and Jerry Jeff Walker. In his review of their CD "Land O' Fandango", Rick Huff wrote "Soaring vocal harmony, impeccable flatpicking, banjo, and keyboard work...the Armstrongs are loved by the adventurously broadminded." Together since 1994, the Due West Trio performs Western music featuring rich harmonies harkening back to campfires and moonlit trails of the American West. Their musical style celebrates the traditions of artists like the Sons of the Pioneers and the singing cowboys of the silver screen.
