Tucson Western Music Festival
November 1, 2009
Join performing host of the Tucson Western Music Festival, Jon Messenger, for a Celebration of Contemporary Western Songwriters. The festival will feature the following great musicians: 11:00am-11:45am: Katy Creek Band featuring Wes and Nancy Ruybal. With a pure, uncomplicated style, Wes and Nancy sing about the American West and its people from the modern day working cowboy to its original settlers. Together, with their bass player, Wes, Nancy and their fiddler, Doug, are the Katy Creek Band -- a charming group that has Nancy's heartfelt vocals as its centerpiece. 12:00pm-12:45pm: Dennis Jay from Levernia, Texas has made a driving rhythm guitar style to power his songs and holds a rich, resonant voice to sing them. His voice and his songs are reminiscent of Hank Williams and Marty Robbins. Jay's song "Primicia" was recognized as one of the top 10 best single Western releases of 2007 by Heartland Public Radio. 1:00pm-1:45pm: Patty Clayton was Western Music Association's Female Performer of the year in 2004 and Academy of Western Artists' 2007 Western Music Female Vocalist of the year. 2:00pm-2:45pm: Kerry Grombacher plays guitar and mandolin and writes contemporary folk and western songs, as well as country songs and ballads. Kerry now resides in New Orleans and performs regularly at festivals, house concerts and coffee houses. He travels throughout the west appearing at numerous cowboy poetry and music gatherings. 3:00pm-3:45pm: Call of the West featuring Jeanne Cahill and Jerome Campbell. Exquisite harmonies, top-notch musicianship, and on-stage fun define this duo that has been performing together for twenty years, playing a variety of instruments including guitars, mandolin, stand-up steel guitar, concertina and harmonica. 4:00pm-5:30pm: The Desert Sons have been performing the traditional and contemporary music of the American West. Their unique vocal harmony and classic instrumentation are combined with an energy and stage presence that always engages the audience in a celebration of the West and its music. They simply write and sing about what they live and love. The beauty and excitement of their performances comes from more than musical talent; it's from the soul and spirit that is unique to those who belong to the West.
